Ingredients: (Serves 4) 675g/1½ lb stewing beef 1 onion, chopped Salt, pepper 40g/1½ oz flour 575ml/1pt water 2 beef stock cubes 5 carrots, chopped 3 potatoes, diced Oil for frying Method: 1. Season the meat with salt and pepper and fry in a deep pan until browned. 2. Add onions, sprinkle the flour in the pan and stir well. 3. Pour in the water, add stock cubes, carrots and potatoes and bring to the boil, stirring occasionally. 4. Cover the pan and cook on a low heat for 1-1½ hours until the meat is tender (if you have a pressure cooker, this will speed up the cooking time to half). Season to taste and serve with potatoes.
