Ingredients: (Serves 4) 1kg/2lb 4oz potatoes, sliced 1 tbsp oil 1 tbsp butter 1 large onion, sliced 200g/7oz cooked ham, cut into cubes 200g/7oz grated cheddar 300ml/ ½ pt crème fraîche Salt, pepper
Method: 1. Preheat the oven to 200°C and lightly grease a large ovenproof dish. 2. Cook the potatoes in a pan of boiling water for 5 mins until nearly tender. 3. In the meantime melt the butter with the oil in another pan and fry the onion. 4. Put half of the potato slices on the bottom of the prepared dish, season and cover with onion slices and ham. 5. Spread over half of the crème fraîche and sprinkle with half of the grated cheese. 6. Cover with the rest of the potato slices, season, spread over the rest of the crème fraîche and sprinkle with the remaining cheese. Bake for 30-40 mins until golden.
